Occasionally, you may wish to reorganize some of the content in your notebook. For instance, you may have erroneously attached the Geometry subtopic to the History topic, and you actually wanted it under Mathematics. Making the switch requires a process called reparenting.

To reparent simply means to change the parent page of a subtopic to another page, and thankfully the process is rather simple. As mentioned under the Organization page, everything is organized using Wikidot's built-in parenting system. All you have to do, therefore, is change the parent page like you would on a regular Wiki site.

You only need to ensure two things before starting.

  • You need to be on the page whose parent you wish to change. In the example given in the first paragraph, this would be the Geometry page.
  • You need the pagename of the new parent page. The page name is the name that you would type in the URL to go to that page. For this page, that would be notebook:reparenting. In the example, this would be the pagename of the Mathematics page.

Next, follow this step-by-step process:

  1. Open the Admin Panel in the side bar
  2. Under Page Options, find Reparent and click on it
  3. You should see a form field with a pagename in it
  4. Replace that with the pagename of the new parent page
  5. Click save
